After breakfast at your Riad in Essaouira your driver will pick you up to start your journey towards Taroudant. You will follow the route along the beach through many fishing villages. Stop for photos along the route. Lunch in Taghazout, famous for surfing the Atlantic waves. Stop in Agadir for a walk along the beach before continuing to Taroudant, A Berber market town with excellently preserved town walls. This is well off the beaten track and has few tourists and a lovely warm winter climate. Here you will get a truly authentic experience and relaxed atmosphere with diverse scenery. The two souks are hassle free and full of interesting products and low prices. Particular good buys are jewelers and carpets. The ramparts of the town are six km long with numerous intact gates all of which can be seen from a horse drawn carriage ride. Surrounded by the Atlas mountains, where you spend the night in a traditional Riad.
Morning departure 8:AM from Taroudant, known as “the little Marrakesh”, via Taliouine and then Taznakht. From here the road continues to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the most famous Kasbah in Morocco and one of Morocco’s eight UNESCO World Heritage sites. After lunch in the village, there is time to visit the Kasbah, climbing to the top to admire the view. In the afternoon, a visit to the Atlas Film Studios is scheduled. Here numerous Hollywood blockbusters were shot and the sets are still mostly intact (Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Asterix and Obelix, Game of Thrones.) There remain only a few kilometres to the small town of Ouarzazate, where you spend the night in a traditional Riad.
After breakfast, you set out towards the Dades Gorge, passing the Skoura Oasis, where numerous ancient kasbahs, some sadly in ruins, stand amongst the palm trees. From here, our route takes us through Kela’a M’gouna, the Valley of Roses, famous for its Rose Festival in May,. Here we stop to see the cosmetic articles which are made locally from the valley’s abundant flowers. These products are well-known throughout Morocco and are highly valued. From here, you take an off-road route to have a better impression of the landscape. Along the way, you will stop at caves, used by whichever Berber nomads happen to pass and claim residence there. We will have a glass of tea with them beofre continuing to the Dades Gorge for lunch. The trip continues a short distance to Tinghir and the very different Toudgha gorges, where you spend the night in a hotel or Kasbah.
After breakfast, there are opportunities to walk, either along the river through the gardens or up the road on the other side of the gorges. Lunch will either be here or later at the bivouac at the Erg Chebbi dunes. You drive there via the Oasis of Tafilalet near Erfoud, famous for its Date Festival, and Rissani, which is the seat of the Alaouite family of the present king of Morocco. At the bivouac you are welcomed with a glass of tea before taking a camel ride to watch the sunset from the top of the dunes. Later there is dinner and the night in a nomad tent at the foot of the dunes.
We will rise early to see the spectacle of the sunrise over the dunes of the Sahara before making our way back to the hotel for breakfast and a shower. then and departure to Errachidia via Erfoud and the Ziz valley. Continuation to Midelt. Lunch in the Place, and departure to the Nourth across the Middle Atlas Mountains through the 1,120 m altitude mountain, We will drive through the cedar forests of Azrou and stop to hand feed the monkeys. We will continue via Ifrane, the ‘Switzerland of Morocco’ to arrive early evening to Fes, dropping you off in your Hotel or Riad, End of our service.
